Moniek graduated from Leiden University in the fields of Public Administration and Crisis and Security Management (cum laude). In her position as tutor for the Bachelor Security Studies, Moniek currently teaches academic skills courses, as well as courses related to Law and Security, Economics of Security, and Security Governance. Her research interests lie in security governance, policing, European governance and migration policy.
Previously, Moniek carried out a joint research project with colleagues from Leiden University and Erasmus University Rotterdam on the functioning of the Dutch National Police.
As a teaching assistant, Moniek taught the course ‘Research Design’ of the Master Crisis and Security Management. At the Institute of Public Administration, Moniek taught the course ‘Quantitative empirical research and domestic governance’ to students of Public Administration.
