Wout Broekema is Assistant Professor of crisis management at Leiden University, with a background in Public Administration. Broekema research activities focus on increasing knowledge and understanding of crisis management processes, thereby applying rigid scientific methods to practical relevant questions. His research interests include crisis management, safety science, resilience, organizational learning, and public management. His PhD dissertation addresses the factors and mechanisms that affect crisis-induced learning by public organizations. He advises public and private organizations on how to enhance their learning performance in relation to safety and security threats. Broekema holds a University Teaching Qualification (BKO) and teaches courses in the Security Studies bachelor and Crisis and Security Management master. He has published in top-ranked public administration and safety journals as well as well-read professional journals.
