Seran de Leede completed her master Modern History at Leiden University in February 2012 on the topic 'Neo-Nazi women, their role and position in the neo-Nazi scene in modern-day Germany'. She focuses on women and political violence and has a special interest in the position of women in terrorist organisations and insurgency groups. Seran has worked as a visitor researcher at Leiden University's Center for Terrorism and Counterterrorism (now the Institute for Security and Global Affairs), the Netherlands' Scientific Research and Documentation Centre (WODC) and the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism - The Hague (ICCT), where she is still a research fellow. Currently, Seran is involved in a project on women and their potential role in countering violent extremism for HIVOS. Also, she is co-author of the database on Dutch fighters in the Spanish Civil War and has focused on the Dutch nurses within that conflict.
